Ring Resizing: Temporary vs Permanent Fixes
These are the safest at-home, non-permanent fixes if your ring is slightly too big.
1. Silicone Ring Adjusters (Most recommended home fix)
These small transparent sleeves wrap around the inside of the band and reduce the size by half to one full size. They are:
- Cheap
- Invisible when worn
- Removable anytime
Good for: plain bands, everyday rings, engagement rings you’re waiting to resize after wedding band is chosen
Not good for: extremely loose rings (more than 1 size off)
You can purchase them from Amazon
Non-damaging temporary resizing solutions

2) Glue Ring Adjuster (DIY Temporary Fix)
A small amount of clear jewellery-safe glue is applied to the inside of the band to slightly reduce the ring size. This is a resin that is cured with UV light, becoming a hard, clear and smooth layer.
-
Cheap
-
Quick fix at home
- Can be peeled off later
Good for: slightly loose rings, short-term use, emergency fixes
Not good for: valuable rings, eternity bands, long-term wear, sensitive skin
You can purchase them from Amazon

When You Should NOT Resize a Ring at Home
There are situations where even a “temporary” DIY fix can cause expensive or irreversible damage. Avoid home methods if your ring is:
1. Eternity bands / stones all the way around
These cannot be resized even traditionally because the stones take up the full circumference. Temporary resizing resins and glue may adhere to the gemstones and cause damage.
Only certain professional techniques (like beads or lining) are safe.

2. Vintage / sentimental / inherited pieces
Old solder joints, thin bands, or fragile settings can snap or warp under pressure.
3. Rings already too weak or thin
If the band is already thinning, a wrong attempt can break it entirely. The whole band may need replacing.

Professional Ring Resizing — The ADV Method
When a permanent fix is needed, we have multiple safe methods depending on the ring type.
1. Traditional Resize (Cut, Adjust, Solder, Polish)
This method is used when adjusting a ring by one or more full sizes, either up or down.
✅ Seamless finish
✅ Professionally polished to look like new
✅ Suitable for most gold rings
Approximate time: 1–3 days
Cost: $50–$250 for one to a few size adjustments, depending on the metal and any stones
More complex designs, particularly those with multiple stones, require each setting to be checked for security. If needed, claws will be tightened to ensure all stones remain secure.
2. Bead Sizing (Permanent but reversible option)
Instead of cutting the ring, tiny metal beads are added inside the band.
✅ Good for spinning rings
✅ Keeps top of ring centred
✅ Safer for delicate settings
ADV offers bead sizing in-house, perfect for when you don’t want to cut the band but want a secure fit.
3. Sizing Bar / Inlay Liner
A smooth inner liner is added to reduce size without altering outer appearance.
✅ Great for eternity bands
✅ Comfortable for sensitive fingers

Getting the right fit for your ring is about both comfort and security. While temporary at-home solutions can be helpful in the short term, they are not a replacement for a proper resize when it’s needed.
If your ring is valuable, set with stones, or holds sentimental meaning, it’s always worth having it assessed professionally to avoid unnecessary damage.
A well-fitted ring should feel secure without being tight, and once it’s sized correctly, you won’t have to think about it again. If you’re unsure, it’s always better to ask than risk damaging something special.
