How do I choose the right engagement ring?

When choosing an engagement ring, most couples consider the diamond or gemstone shape, ring style, metal type, and budget. Lifestyle is also an important factor, if your partner works with their hands, a lower-set design can be more comfortable and less likely to catch. Classic diamond solitaires remain timeless, while sapphire engagement rings and coloured diamonds offer a distinctive alternative. Our team is always happy to guide you through the process to help you find a ring that reflects your style and preferences.

What gemstones can be used in an engagement ring?

The most popular centre stones are diamonds, but many couples now choose alternative gemstones. At Australian Diamond Valley we offer engagement rings featuring natural and lab-grown diamonds, rare Argyle origin diamonds in white, pink, champagne and cognac colours, Australian sapphires.

Are sapphires suitable for engagement rings?

Yes. Sapphires are one of the most durable gemstones, ranking 9 on the Mohs hardness scale. This makes them ideal for everyday wear. Australian sapphires are especially popular for engagement rings because of their unique colours, including deep blue, teal and green tones.

What are Argyle diamonds?

Argyle diamonds originate from the Argyle mine in Western Australia, which was famous for producing rare pink, champagne and cognac coloured diamonds. With the mine now closed, these diamonds are increasingly sought after for their rarity and Australian provenance.

What shape diamond is most popular for engagement rings?

Round brilliant diamonds have traditionally been the most popular choice for engagement rings because of their exceptional sparkle and timeless appeal. However, oval diamonds have become increasingly popular in recent years, offering an elegant elongated shape that can make the centre stone appear larger.

Other popular shapes include cushion, emerald, pear and radiant cuts, each offering a distinctive style.

What is the difference between natural diamonds and lab-grown diamonds?

Natural diamonds are formed over billions of years beneath the earth’s surface, while lab-grown diamonds are created using advanced technology that replicates the natural growth process. Both are real diamonds with the same physical and optical properties, but lab-grown diamonds typically offer a more accessible price point.

Are your engagement rings handcrafted?

Yes. Our engagement rings are handcrafted to order using traditional jewellery techniques combined with modern precision. This ensures exceptional quality and attention to detail in every piece.

What metals are used in your engagement rings?

Our rings are crafted using high-quality precious metals, including gold and platinum. Many designs incorporate Australian sourced precious metals, reflecting our commitment to locally crafted jewellery.

Can engagement rings be resized?

Yes. We offer complimentary resizing to ensure the perfect fit.

Can I create a custom engagement ring?

Absolutely. We specialise in bespoke engagement rings and can source diamonds or gemstones to create a design that is entirely unique.

How long does it take to make an engagement ring?

Because our rings are handcrafted to order, production typically takes around 4–6 weeks. If you have a special proposal date approaching, we are always happy to assist where possible.

How much should I spend on an engagement ring?

There is no fixed rule for how much to spend on an engagement ring. The most important consideration is choosing a ring that reflects your partner’s style and feels comfortable within your budget.

Some couples prefer a classic diamond solitaire, while others choose distinctive gemstones such as Australian sapphires or coloured diamonds. The right engagement ring is ultimately one that feels meaningful and special to the couple wearing it.
